Poetry in the face of scleroderma

One Breath at a Time-
I found one day I could not breathe
with life caving in around me.
I stopped to think and pray a while.
The road ahead went on for miles.

Time is ever drifting away.
How can I make it one more day,
to find out what it's like
with one breath at a time?

As dreams fall short of hopeful
and memories haunt my soul,
I look to find that life goes by
with one breath at a time.

Take one breath at a time.
It's easier that way.
You can't take it all at once
no matter how you try.
Too much of it will make you choke,
not enough and you'll never know.
And when you think you're all alone
Take one breath at a time.

Life Goes On
-
Fears and strenghts
Life and death
Reflections of the past
Images of the future
Sorrows and joy
Contentment and pain
And the world turns round
as a new day drowns the cold darkness

Tears and laughter
Todays and tomorrows
Times have come and gone
Times that have yet been felt
Good and discomfort
Happiness and gloom
And the dawn of a brand new day
takes over the presence of the unsure twilight.
